This is the last installment of tooth grinding. As mentioned in my first installment, bruxing is a central nervous system disorder. We cannot stop you from tooth grinding but we can keep you from destroying your teeth through the use of oral appliances. The kind of appliance that is made is determined by the type of destruction to the dental jaw complex – whether the destruction is causing TMJ problems, loose teeth or severely worn teeth. In all cases the appliance should be a HARD plastic appliance – not SOFT. Store bought appliances are only temporary and soft appliances not only will not solve the problem but in some cases, may make it worse.
I hope that this series has been helpful in shedding some light on tooth grinding. Visit my blog again soon. My next post will address a new dental issue.
